Data show that China's power battery production in April totaled 4.7GWh, an increase of 5.5% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 35.5%. Among them, the output of ternary batteries in April was 2.9GWh, accounting for 60.6% of the total output, a year-on-year decrease of 33.7%, and a month-on-month decrease of 11.7%; the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 1.8GWh, accounting for 39.1% of the total output, a year-on-year decrease of 34%, and the month-on-month growth 49.6%.

In terms of installed capacity, in April, China's total installed capacity of power batteries was 3.6 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 33.7%, and the decrease was narrowed, up 29.5% month-on-month. Among them, the total installed capacity of ternary batteries was 2.6GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 30.4% and an increase of 17.8%; the total installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 0.9GWh, a decrease of 39.2% year-on-year and an increase of 74.1%.

In an interview with a surging news reporter, Mo Ke, chief analyst of True Lithium Research, said that the rebound in power battery loading last month was mainly due to the improvement in the production and sales of new energy vehicles. However, the current order status of upstream links such as batteries and materials is still not satisfactory. The market trend remains to be seen.

From the perspective of battery technology, Mo Ke analysis said that the proportion of installed lithium iron phosphate batteries will further increase, this year or will reach 40%. "The epidemic has an impact on people's consumption levels. They will pay more attention to price factors. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are cheaper, and electric vehicles equipped with such batteries have advantages in cost. In addition, BYD's blade batteries and CTP technology in the Ningde era this year They will be first applied to lithium iron phosphate batteries, which can improve their energy density to a certain extent. These two reasons will make the installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries significantly increase this year. "

In addition, the "Notice on Improving the Promotion and Application of Financial Subsidy Policies for New Energy Vehicles" released in April this year added a new energy subsidy threshold of less than 300,000, which also provides space for the development of lithium iron phosphate batteries. In terms of enterprises, data from April showed that a total of 41 power battery companies in China's new energy vehicle market have achieved supporting facilities, an increase of 4 from the previous month. The top three companies in terms of installed capacity are Ningde Times, BYD and Panasonic, with 1.76GWh, 0.53GWh and 0.31GWh respectively, and LG Chem with domestic Tesla Model 3 models ranks fourth with 0.29GWh.

It is worth noting that, due to the previous epidemic, the sluggish production and sales of new energy vehicles in the first quarter caused the demand for power batteries to decline accordingly. According to data from the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, domestic power battery production in the first quarter of 2020 was 8.3GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 58.3%; sales were 7.9GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 54.9%. According to the research data of Truth, the installed capacity of power batteries in China in the first quarter was 5.68GWh, a significant decrease of 54% year-on-year.
